LE COULTRE MODEL 201

Antoine LeCoultre began to create pieces for the clock in 1833. He built in the I GM airplane instruments such as manifold pressure gauges, speedmeter, clocks… and mainly sold it to Jaeger from Paris. Due to a big demand of his products, they merge in 1936.

It was thought for airplanes but also used in tanks.

It´s remarcable that he pendant to wind up the clock and operate it is set at one o’clock.

The panel where the clock was mounted needed enough space to be able to reach it, manipulate it to wind up, and pull it out and set the time.

This 7 jewels model, once winded up, can last 8 days, with only one spring barrel that measures 4.1 mm. It occupies the centre, so the centre wheel is situated near a side which is quite rare.

I have found this his movement with a Smith dial and bezel wounded clock made for the Spitfire, but whithout any engraved mark, I think due to mass construction in war time they didn´t have time to engraved plates.
